Gino Sarfati

Gino Sarfatti was born in Venice in 1912 and studied aeronautical engineering at the University of Genoa. From 1939 onwards he worked in the lighting sector and established Arteluce which soon became a national and international benchmark for the modern architecture movement in lighting. During his thirty years of activity, Gino Sarfatti designed and produced more than 400 luminaires and carried out non-stop research on innovation in terms of typology, materials, production technologies, light sources, technical lighting effects and aspects of design. design . In the course of their work , Gino Sarfatti and Arteluce won numerous awards and accolades such as the Compasso d' Oro in 1954 and 1955 , and the Diploma of Honor at the Milan Triennale . Arteluce was also an important meeting place and forum for many of the most important Italian designers of the 1950s and 1960s. He then worked with Arteluce : F. Albini - F. Helg , C. Belgioioso - Peressuti - E. Rogers , GF Frattini , V. Viganò , S. Asti , V. Latis , C. Santi , M. Vignelli , I. Parisi , U. Gregotti - L. Meneghetti - G. Stoppino , M. Huber . The prestigious Arteluce store Corso Matteotti was designed with M. Zanuso in 1951 followed, 10 years later, by the store on Via della Spiga designed with V. Viganò, a lifelong friend. Gino Sarfatti died in Gravedona in 1984.
