Konstantin Grcic

Born in Munich in 1965, and graduated in industrial design from the Royal College of Art in London. Konstantin Grcic Industrial Design (KGID) was founded in 1991. The office specializes in various fields ranging from furniture or other industrial products to exhibition design and architecture-related work, and works with some of the leading international companies in the design industry. Some of the products designed by Konstantin Grcic have received international design awards (such as the MAYDAY lamp, winner of the Compasso d`Oro in 2001) and are part of permanent exhibitions in the most prestigious museums in the world, such as the MoMA in New York, the Center Georges Pompidou in Paris or Die Neue Sammlung in Munich. In June 2005 PHAIDON Press London published the first complete monograph of Konstantin Grcic's work. Konstantin Grcic defines function in human terms, combining formal rigor with mental acuity and humor. Each of its products is characterized by its careful search in the history of design and architecture and its passion for technology and materials. Known for his cut-out pieces, Grcic is called a minimalist, but the designer prefers to talk about simplicity. www.konstantin-grcic.com
