Ettore Sottsass

Important Italian architect and designer of the second half of the 20th century. Founder of the Memphis Design Group and a leading design consultant for Olivetti. Born in Austria, he began his career studying at the Polytechnic University of Turin. He was a student for four years and proved his great talent writing in art and interior design with his partner Luigi Spazzapan. Upon leaving college, Sottsass enlisted in the Army for three years. After fulfilling his military duty, he worked for a group of architects while setting up his own office in Milano, called "El Estudio".
